Board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner

Welcome! I'm Suzanne Perakathu, APRN, PMHNP-BC.

As a board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner with over 8 years of clinical experience, I am passionate about helping you find hope and receive medical care that is built around your needs. My clinical training and experience are focused on psychiatric evaluation and medication management rather than providing ongoing psychotherapy.

I provide comprehensive psychiatric evaluations, medication management, and treatment for children (ages 12 and up), adolescents, and adults experiencing anxiety, depression, ADHD, and other psychiatric conditions. I collaborate closely with each patient to develop an individualized treatment plan that utilizes thoughtful use of psychiatric medications.

I work in collaboration with psychiatrist Dr. Michael Hernandez when appropriate, as part of maintaining safe, high-quality psychiatric care.

My Christian faith inspires the way I care for others. I believe every person is created with inherent worth and deserves to be treated with dignity, compassion, and respect. While I warmly welcome people of all faiths, backgrounds, and beliefs, my commitment is to create a caring environment and provide medical care that is mindful and respectful of each patient's individual beliefs and views.

Common questions.

Do you accept insurance?

We work with several major insurers and offer self-pay options. Our team will confirm your coverage before your first session, so there are no surprises.

What ages do you treat?

We treat children ages 12 and up, adolescents, and adults for anxiety, depression, ADHD, and other mental health conditions.

Is this telehealth or in-person?

We offer both options. Telehealth services require the patient to be physically located in the state of Texas at the time of their visit.

Do you provide emergency or crisis care?

No, this practice does not provide emergency or crisis care.

Are you a psychiatrist?

No. A psychiatrist is a physician (MD or DO). I am a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP-BC), an advanced practice registered nurse with graduate-level education and specialized training in psychiatric and mental health care. I am licensed as an APRN and board certified in Texas.

As a PMHNP-BC, I provide many of the same outpatient psychiatric services as psychiatrists, including psychiatric evaluations, diagnosis and treatment of mental health conditions, and medication management.

I collaborate with psychiatrist Dr. Michael Hernandez when appropriate, as part of maintaining safe, high-quality psychiatric care.

Are you a therapist or counselor?

No. While my training includes psychotherapy, my primary focus is psychiatric evaluation and medication management. I may recommend working with a therapist or counselor for more specialized psychotherapy alongside the psychiatric care I provide.
